PDTI's Future Uncertain

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — The Professional Truck Driver Institute is heading into uncertain waters as its president departs for the private sector, and the organization develops a plan to stand on its own two feet.

Virginia DeRoze, its program manager, told driver trainers on March 17 that the organization had a structure in place that would allow it to survive the scheduled departure of Lana Batts, who is president of both the PTDI and its parent organization, the Truckload Carriers Association in Alexandria, Va.

The meeting was held as part of TCA’s annual meeting, which marked a farewell for Batts who is leaving March 31 to join an Internet trucking services company.

“It’s not built on Lana’s personality. It will go on,” DeRoze said, noting the institute is developing a business plan to present to its board of directors in May.
