Personal Spending Falls in September

Consumer personal spending dropped 0.3% in September, the biggest drop in four years, the Commerce Department said Friday.

Spending did not change in August and July, Bloomberg reported.

Incomes rose 0.2%, Commerce said.

Economists forecast spending would rise 0.2%, Bloomberg said.

An increase in consumer spending could increase demand for new factory goods and the trucking shipments that get them to stores.
