Personal Spending Rises in January

Consumer personal spending rose 0.2% in January following little change the previous month, the Commerce Department said.

The gain was below economists’ median forecast of a 0.4% increase, Bloomberg reported.

Personal incomes gained 0.3%.

A rise in consumer spending could increase demand for new factory goods and the trucking shipments that get them to stores.
