Peterbilt unveiled two new configurations for car carrier cabs, the Model 567 UltraLow Roof Day Cab and the Model 589 UltraLow Roof 58-inch Sleeper.
Paccar Inc. subsidiary Peterbilt said Feb. 23 the latest options for customers were developed in collaboration with car carriers, are lighter and offer lower roof heights as well as additional safety features, visibility and driver comfort.
“The introduction of these two new configurations for car carrier applications is another example of how Peterbilt designs and manufactures products that provide individualized solutions for the unique needs of our customers,” Chief Engineer Scott Newhouse said.
The Model 567 day cab has a roof height of 95 inches, which Peterbilt said is the lowest factory height available in the U.S. and eliminates the need for aftermarket modifications.
The Model 589 sleeper configuration comes with a 100-inch roof height and a 2.1-meter cab for extra space, the company said, adding that both models have customizable interiors.

Among the standard safety systems are adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking and side object detection.
Paccar MX-11 and MX-13 engines are options on both models, and are coupled with a Paccar TX-12 transmission. Peterbilt said the transmission is the lightest heavy-duty automated transmission system on the market.
Both models are available from Peterbilt’s 425 dealer locations in North America.
As a result of the introduction of the two new configurations, two Peterbilt car carrier options are set to be discontinued, a spokeswoman said.
The Model 365 day cab is being discontinued in favor of the Model 567 day cab, while the Model 389 sleeper configuration is being discontinued in favor of the latest Model 589 option, the spokeswoman said. A Model 589 car carrier already is available, she said, adding that the UltraLow Roof Sleeper was an enhancement to Peterbilt’s product line.

In addition to the Class 8 Model 589 and Model 567 options, Peterbilt offers Model 536 and Model 537 medium-duty car carrier configurations.
Peterbilt’s revamp of its car carrier product line with lower flat roofs looks to aid customers in northern and northeastern states dealing with low bridges, the spokeswoman said, allowing haulers to position large trucks and SUVs over the cab.
A flat roof was previously only available as an aftermarket modification, she said.
The low profile also is expected to help auto haulers transport heavier electric trucks and cars.
