Peterbilt is set to offer digital vision system-mirrors for its Models 579 and 567, and the truck maker expects to improve truck drivers’ visibility options and safety, it said.

Paccar unit Peterbilt said the mirrors will help to improve driver safety by reducing blind spots on the road, providing clear visibility during inclement weather and by reducing the distraction of headlight glare at night.

The mirrors include an automatic camera defrost functionality when temperatures are below 43 degrees Fahrenheit.

DVS-M uses a high dynamic range camera integrated into the driver side mirror head and two HDR cameras integrated into the passenger side mirror head.

All three cameras will feature hydrophobic lenses to repel water, ice and dust, with the aim of improving visibility for drivers during harsh conditions.

The cameras are controlled by a joystick interface, and drivers can see what is going on in two high-definition interior monitors.

The driver side monitor is 12.3 inches, and the passenger side monitor is 15 inches. Both are located on the A-pillars to avoid windshield visibility disruption.

Peterbilt is offering three layouts for the monitors: traditional, panoramic and expanded. Further options for the monitors include automatic trailer tracking and panning, infrared night vision and clear inclement weather vision.
