Philadelphia-Area Bridges Keep E-ZPass Discounts for Trucks

he Delaware River Port Authority — a body that oversees four east-west bridges in the Philadelphia metropolitan area — decided to keep in place a system of E-ZPass discounts for commercial vehicles even as it removed them for passenger cars.

“That’s a win for us,” said James Runk, president of the Pennsylvania Motor Truck Association.

The agency said it took the action Dec. 18 in approving a budget for 2004 that maintained discounts for commercial users of the E-ZPass electronic toll collection system. Earlier, it had said it might eliminate all E-ZPass discounts to help close a budget shortfall of $15 million.
