Port of Charleston Container Volume Rises 9% for Year

The Port of Charleston, S.C., said its container volume rose 9% for its fiscal year ended June 30.

Container volume increased to 1.56 million 20-foot equivalent units. The port handled 125,257 TEUs in June, a 4% increase over the same month last year.

“Charleston’s growth remains at more than double the average market growth for the nation’s ports,” said Jim Newsome, chairman of the South Carolina Ports Authority.

Charleston’s non-container facilities handled 1.12 million tons of bulk and breakbulk cargo in the fiscal year, up 30% increase from the previous year, the SCPA said.
