The Port of Oakland’s board of commissioners is expected to give final approval next week to a measure that would ban older trucks beginning Jan. 1.

Drayage trucks with engine year models earlier than 1994 will not be allowed at the port, while those with models between 1994 and 2003 will have to be retrofitted with diesel particulate filters.

The port’s board, which will meet Tuesday, first voted to adopt the ban at last week, saying in a subsequent press release that the ban goes “well beyond the requirements of the California Air Resources Board regulations” by denying entry to drayage trucks that do not comply with CARB’s January 2010 clean trucks deadline.”

The air board only requires that records be kept on non-compliant trucks and forwarded to CARB, the release said.
