The Indiana State Police have begun mailing postcards to trucking companies in an attempt to inform motor carriers of their drivers’ traffic violations.
These are not the normal tourist scenes from Aunt Mildred vacationing in Florida. As part of a pilot program, one district of troopers is sending out the postcards to notify carriers whenever their drivers are involved in a serious offense while driving a truck.
The goal of the program is to make company safety directors aware of unsafe driving before an accident happens.
“Safety directors are the last to know when it comes to tickets,” said Chris Nuzum, president of the Eastern Indiana Traffic Club. “I don’t know of any other state out there doing something like this.”
