Productivity Is Top Focus for Fleet Managers, GE Fleet Survey Says

Maximizing productivity is the primary concern for truck fleet managers, according to a new survey conducted by GE Capital Fleet Services.

Productivity came in with a 44% of responses by fleet managers as the main means to keep operating expenses in check, GE said Monday.

That was followed by meeting cost savings goals, at 24%, and understanding the impact of new vehicle technologies such as alternative-fuel vehicles, at 20%.

Fleet managers said the most important area of focus within the productivity category was specifying the right truck for the job, with a 29% rating.

That was followed by specifying the right truck, at 22% within the productivity category, and reducing downtime and the total cost of ownership, both of which came in at 18%.

“Unexpected downtime can result in lost time and money, and cause unnecessary difficulties for fleet managers and drivers alike,” said Ken Gillies, manager of truck purchasing and engineering for GE Capital Fleet Services.

“Our truck engineers make it a priority to help our customers find the right truck for the job, which will in turn help them minimize downtime and maximize productivity,” Gillies said in a statement.
