Rail Regulation Argued at Hearing

Lawmakers heard differing points of view this week on whether the railroad industry should be re-regulated at a Senate Commerce Committee hearing on reauthorization of the Surface Transportation Board.

Shippers groups urged varying levels of reregulation, while railroads and one major union urged continuation of the status quo.

At the hearing, National Industrial Transportation League President Ed Emmett released the results of a survey of his members, showing that 82% want increased competition on the nation’s railroads.
