Retiring TRALA President Payne Seeks Smooth Transition of Power
Twenty-two years after helping to create the Truck Renting and Leasing Association, its president is getting ready to step aside — for the second time.
In March, J. Michael Payne announced plans to leave the association at the end of 2001. Until then, he will be working with newly appointed Executive Vice President Peter J. Vroom to enable a smooth transition, the two men said in a joint interview.
“We’ve had a great relationship,” Payne said of Vroom. “Our members are thrilled that Peter has agreed to come back.”

Vroom is no stranger to TRALA. He worked from 1991 to 1997 as vice president of government relations for the organization, based in Alexandria, Va.
