Robert Hirsch Takes Reins at TCA

In choosing to attend law school, Robert A. Hirsch fervently hoped he would not have to follow in the footsteps of his father, who made a living selling vacuum cleaners door to door.

But as he launched his career as a transportation and labor law specialist, Hirsch grew to respect his father’s ability to persuade people of the “need for your product, rather than convincing them to buy.”

“I realized that, as a lawyer, I’m a salesman for ideas,” he said.

And now as the new president of the Truckload Carriers Association, Hirsch faces perhaps his greatest sales challenge — to represent the interests of truckload carriers without further straining the relationship between TCA and American Trucking Associations.
