Ryder System Inc. announced the appointment of Rajeev Ravindran to the position of chief information officer.

He replaces Mel Kirk, who joined Ryder’s fleet management solutions team as chief technology officer.

Ravindran was the chief information officer at JM Family Enterprises, a diversified automotive company where he worked for nearly 15 years.

At Ryder, he is responsible for all aspects of IT organization, including the technology, vision, strategy and execution of key platforms and systems, according to the Miami-based company.

Ryder Supply Chain Solutions ranks No. 13 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest for-hire carriers in North America.

The announcement was made shortly after Ryder said it was opening Logistics Operating Center in London, Ontario, which will primarily serve the eastern Canadian region.

The new facility includes a 30,000-square-foot building with office and cross-docking space as well as parking spaces for 286 trailers and 162 tractors. A total of 210 drivers are domiciled out of the facility along with 55 employees, according to Ryder.

“This facility is a key element of our cross-border operation between Canada and the U.S.,” Gene Sevilla, vice president of international supply chain solutions, said in a release.

It is expected to handle more than 3,000 cross-border freight movements a month among the United States, Canada and Mexico.
