Ryder Destroys Volvo Truck in Demo, Challenges Technicians to Fix in 24 Hours
Ryder challenged a team of its technicians to repair a tractor that had run over a spike strip, drove through an exploding debris field and was hit with a 2-ton wrecking ball as part of its “Project Rebirth.”
The wrecked truck was towed to a maintenance facility in Atlanta, and a team of 10 Ryder technicians from across the country had 24 hours to get the brand new Volvo tractor into shape.
The company set up the challenge to showcase the skills of its more than 5,000 technicians that maintain 200,000 vehicles that travel 6.5 billion miles a year.
“While the kind of destruction shown in this video is extreme, it’s not that far from some of the excessive damage that has come through our shops over the past 80 years. Showing our technician team in action in a high-stakes challenge like this is a great way to highlight the kind of talent our customers have access to every day at any one of our 800 maintenance shops across North America,” Dennis Cooke, president of global fleet management solutions for Ryder, said in a statement.
“If businesses are going to outsource fleet maintenance to Ryder, they need to be really confident about our ability to maintain and repair trucks, quickly and correctly the first time,” Cooke said.
“Because our technicians work behind the scenes, there aren’t many opportunities for us to showcase their incredible knowledge and skill. These videos enable us to show the world in an exciting and compelling way the outstanding expertise of our technician workforce,” he added.
Ryder’s Supply Chain Solutions business ranks No. 13 on Transport Topics’ Top 100 list of the largest for-hire carriers in the United States and Canada.
