| Special to Transport Topics SAE Focusing on Truck Safety
The Society of Automotive Engineers is hoping that discussions of vehicle safety and more general business transportation issues will broaden interest in the engineering association’s annual meeting here this week.
SAE recast the premier sessions in this year’s event in order to attract top executives from carriers and vehicle and component manufacturers as well as the vehicle engineers who traditionally attend the show, according to the organization.

In lieu of several traditional vehicle-engineering panels, the 2000 SAE International Truck & Bus meeting, under way in Portland, Ore., is featuring panel discussions on truck safety technologies and the future role of the diesel engine in the environment.
There will also be several sessions examining commercial applications of vehicle technologies that have been developed for military trucks.
