NASHVILLE, Tenn. — SAF-Holland introduced its CBX23 AeroBeam Fixed Frame Air Suspension, designed for the flatbed and tank trailer market, calling it the lightest-weight air suspension in the industry.
Its base weight of 465 pounds includes suspension, 71.5-inch track taper spindle axles with 16.5-by-7.0-inch foundation brakes and taper weld-on steel frame brackets. The suspension also is 45 pounds lighter overall than the previous-generation CBX23 suspension, according to SAF-Holland, and 25 pounds per axle lighter then the nearest competitive fixed-frame air suspension, the Bessenbach, Germany-based company said here Feb. 26 at the annual meeting of American Trucking Associations' Technology & Maintenance Council. SAF-Holland's U.S. operations is headquartered in Muskegon, Michigan.
SAF-Holland also introduced an enhanced fifth wheel specifically for terminal tractors, with an overall stronger design. The FW35TT's features also reduce maintenance time.
The top plate is cast with an extra-thick top surface to increase useful life. The entire casting is made from high-yield cast steel, SAF-Holland said.
The twin lock jaws also are secured with easy-to-remove pins and can be replaced in less than 15 minutes, SAF-Holland said.
The new fifth wheel features Holland’s twin-lock design, which prevents kingpin bounce-out, the leading cause of coupling delay or failure, the company said.
