Safety Technology Bill Proposed in Senate

Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.) has introduced a bill that would provide tax credits for half the cost of certain commercial vehicle safety systems.

Like the identical bill proposed in the House of Representatives in May, Stabenow’s legislation would give fleets tax credits for brake-stroke monitoring systems, lane-departure warning systems, collision warning systems and vehicle-stability systems.

Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems, which manufactures many of the eligible technologies, threw its support behind the measure, saying in a statement it “could help drivers improve highway safety and potentially mitigate accidents on our nation’s roadways.”
