Saia Inc.’s less-than-truckload freight division said it is using network services from AT&T to manage its fleet and terminals.

The Johns Creek, Georgia-based carrier is using the communications company’s wireless network for the black boxes installed in its fleet.

The wireless network allows for real-time updates on fuel consumption and engine performance and for customers to track deliveries.

Saia said it has seen a “significant reduction” in operation costs.

“AT&T gives our drivers and dispatch managers the on-the-go tools needed to be more efficient, at the office or on the road. We can better serve our customers and keep a competitive edge for many years to come,” Mark Robinson, chief information officer of Saia LTL Freight, said in a statement.

The carrier also said it is using AT&T to track and verify the classification of freight moving through its 147 terminals.

Saia ranks No. 25 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
