Saia Inc. said Tuesday its second-quarter net income rose to a profit following a loss a year ago.
Saia, the parent company of less-than-truckload carrier Saia Motor Freight Line, earned $7.4 million or 51 cents a share, compared with a loss of $35.9 million or $2.42 in last year’s second quarter.
Last year’s figures included a $44.9 million or $3.02 per-share charge from discontinued operations. Last year, Saia completed the sale of its Jevic Transportation unit to an affiliate of Sun Capital Partners.
Second-quarter revenue rose 12% to $252.8 million, the company said in a statement.
Operating income dipped to $14.6 million from $17 million a year ago.
Saia, formerly SCS Transportation, is ranked No. 29 on the 2007 Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
