Saia’s Third-Quarter Profit Falls

Saia Inc. said Friday its third-quarter net income fell 23% from a year ago, to $5.9 million or 43 cents a share, from $7.7 million or 52 cents a year ago.

Third-quarter revenue rose 10% to $247.8 million, the company said in a statement. Operating income dipped to $12.7 million from $14 million a year ago.

Saia is the parent company of less-than-truckload carrier Saia Motor Freight Line.

LTL tonnage rose 9.5% from a year ago, while shipments rose 11.5% with a 1.7% reduction in weight per shipment.



Saia is ranked No. 29 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
