Schneider to Put Collision Safety Systems on New Trucks

Meritor WABCO said truckload carrier Schneider National has ordered more than 2,500 units of its OnGuard Collision Safety System as standard equipment for new Class 8 trucks it plans to purchase this year.

Meritor WABCO describes OnGuard as an “always on” collision mitigation system.

“It provides vehicles with an active braking system regardless if the cruise control is engaged,” Meritor said in a statement.

Meritor WABCO spokesman John Clark told Transport Topics that Schneider’s plan “is for a rolling implementation into their fleet, not a retrofit.”

Meritor WABCO is a joint venture of Meritor Inc. and WABCO Automotive Control Systems.

Schneider National, which has truckload, intermodal and other transportation operations, is ranked No. 6 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
