Ford Motor Co. said it was recalling 37,400 medium-duty pickups after dealers reported flames coming out of the trucks’ tailpipes.Ford spokesman Dan Jarvis said the recall covers 2008-model F-Series Super Duty trucks with 6.4-liter Power Stroke engines built by International Truck and Engine Corp., the Associated Press reported. About 8,400 of the trucks have been sold, he said.International spokesman Roy Wiley told Transport Topics the trucks have a Ford aftertreatment system — which Ford installs after it receives the engines and which may be the cause of the fires. The Ontario Trucking Association said it is using a new nationwide system to help trucking companies recover stolen cargo. The deal, with Stolen Cargo and Equipment Tracking Inc., will allow investigators to go to one place to find information on stolen cargo, OTA said. SCAET is a nation-wide, centralized database which contains details of cargo theft crimes and is accessible to both fleet managers and police investigators, via the Web.“All fleets should consider becoming a participant in this database,” said Barrie Montague, a senior policy advisor with OTA. “More effective tracking of cargo that is stolen will benefit the industry at large not just those who have freight stolen.” Transport TopicsPrevious Security & Safety Briefs
