Senate Confirms Bailey as NHTSA Chief

The way has been cleared for Sue Bailey to assume the position of administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

A Sept. 20 vote by the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation provided her with legislative approval for the assignment.

Bailey assumed duties as administrator on Aug. 21, having been named to the post by President Clinton in July. On Aug. 3, the President announced her “recess appointment.”
