The Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee has scheduled a vote Dec. 9 on the nomination of Mark Rosekind to become administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

If the committee approves Rosekind to lead the safety regulator, the full Senate could quickly schedule a vote.

If confirmed by the Senate, Rosekind would replace David Friedman in his role as acting administrator. As NHTSA chief, Rosekind would manage the agency’s response to General Motors’ defective ignition switches and reports of unsafe Takata airbags.

Rosekind was nominated Nov. 19. An expert on driver fatigue, he has been a National Transportation Safety Board member since 2010.

On Dec. 9, the committee also will consider the nominations of Dr. Tho Bella Dinh-Zarr to be a member of the National Transportation Safety Board, and Carlos Monje, Jr., to be assistant secretary for Transportation Policy at DOT.

The votes are scheduled for 6 p.m. ET.
