Shake-Up at Mexico’s Dina Follows Western Star Sale

Mexican truck and bus manufacturer Consorcio G. Grupo Dina announced a major corporate shakeup last week, inspired in part by Freightliner’s plan to purchase Western Star Truck Holdings.

Three top executives at Dina resigned last week, and the company’s chief financial officer, Jose Ignacio Moreno Oliveros, has temporarily left his post to assume a key role in a financial restructuring program.

The managerial moves came two weeks after Dina missed a $6.5 million interest payment on a $164 million bond and two days after the company announced a second-quarter net loss of $31.7 million.

Those actions also follow cancellation of an order by Western Star for 140 Dina trucks and an announcement that the Canadian manufacturer was cutting its third-quarter truck order from Dina by 55%.
