Smaller Couriers Pursue Information Technology Systems

PS and FedEx so dominate the American public’s mind when it comes to parcel shipping, it took an international invasion from Deutsche Post’s DHL division to significantly alter the market. However, there are smaller parcel couriers serving niche markets and they, too, are investing in technology.

Dynamex Inc., for instance, specializes in same-day transportation across North America.

“We deliver over lunch, not overnight,” said James Wicker III, president of U.S. operations. He said the Dallas-based com-pany’s “sweet spot” for delivery is about 250 miles.



Wicker said that over the last five years, the company has been able to expand significantly, filling out its geographical footprint “and technology was absolutely essential for connecting every point where we do business. Any market, any time in real time.”
