Snow and ice in the Southeast overnight caused temporary closure of some highways and forced cancellation of thousands of flights in and out of Atlanta on Monday, news services reported.
Authorities reopened Interstate 85 early Monday morning in Coweta County, Ga., after closing a stretch of the road temporarily overnight due to heavy sleet, snow and freezing rain, the Atlanta-Journal Constitution reported on its website.
Late Monday morning a ramps from I-285 to I-75 in Clayton County, Ga., was shut down by a wreck involving two tractor-trailers, the paper said, while in DeKalb County, the ramp from I-285 to I-20 eastbound was closed, also by a truck wreck.
AirTran Airways canceled all of its Monday flights in and out of Atlanta, and Delta canceled almost 1,500 flights from its Atlanta hub.
