ORTLAND, Ore. — Detroit Diesel Corp., engine subsidiary of Freightliner LLC, said its 2007 Series 60 engines would cost more than current models and that new diesel particulate filters would account for about half the increase.

The company did not say what these new engines would cost. Also, under some conditions, a dose of additional fuel will be required to burn off accumulated soot, Freightliner said.

The new Detroit Diesel Series 60 engine will come on the market in January after the most extensive testing in the series’ history, officials of Freightliner and its engine subsidiary, Detroit Diesel Corp., said here recently.
