State Association Executives Debate Size, Weight Increases

Panel Considers Productivity, Congestion Aspects

AN DIEGO — State trucking association executives, national officers and business officials debated truck size and weight issues at last week’s meeting here of the Trucking Association Executives Council.

While some speaking at a TAEC panel discussion about size and weight portrayed that issue as pitting small companies against large companies, others said increased truck sizes would increase productivity and reduce congestion for all.

“I don’t think any of you will have anything more important in your career to deal with than this issue,” said Steve Williams, chief executive officer of Maverick Transportation and first vice chairman of American Trucking Associations.



Williams said that driver availability problems and greater demand for freight transportation services are challenges for trucking companies.
