State DMVs Get Few Answers About Hazmat Driver Checks

epresentatives of state motor vehicle departments had many questions but got few answers about how the new rule requiring background checks for hazardous materials drivers would operate. The DMV officials questioned a representative of the Transportation Security Administration in a series of conference calls.

“We’ve got a lot of questions that we don’t have answers for right now,” said Jason King, spokesman for the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators.

AAMVA hosted the conference calls during the week of June 9, giving state representatives an opportunity to question Stephen Sprague of the TSA Office of Maritime and Land.
