The West Coast was hit by a huge storm Friday that dumped more than 5 inches of rain in some parts of California and feet of snow elsewhere, temporarily closing some major roadways, the Los Angeles Times reported Monday.
More rain was forecast for Tuesday, and after snow fell Sunday night in the Tejon Pass in Southern California, the California Highway Patrol slowed motorists on Interstate 5, the Times said.
At least 5.3 inches of rain fell in the Los Angeles County mountains since Friday, the paper reported.
Travel remained dangerous on Interstate 84 in eastern Oregon, where high winds had calmed by Saturday but ice remained, the Oregonian newspaper reported.
The Cascade and Sierra Nevada mountain ranges were hit in places by as much as three feet of snow or more in places, news reports said.
In Nevada, I-80 and I-50 require vehicles to have chains or four-wheel drive and snow tires through most of the Sierras, the Reno (Nev.) Gazette-Journal reported Sunday.
