Summit Seeks Intermodal Responsibility in Virginia

A discussion among trucking and steamship executives about who has responsibility for the condition of intermodal road equipment could lead to a business, rather than legislative, solution for Virginia ports by July, state officials say.

The Hampton Roads Maritime Association, the Virginia Port Authority and the Virginia Secretary of Transportation brought together both sides for an intermodal summit in Norfolk April 18.

“This has needed to be done for a long, long time,” said Virginia Secretary of Transportation Shirley J. Ybarra.
