Swift Makes Mexico Deal To Meet Growing Demand

Swift Transportation said it has agreed to purchase a 49% stake in Trans-Mex Inc., a truckload carrier based in Mexico.

The move is expected to help Phoenix-based Swift, the nation’s fourth-largest dry van truckload carrier, to take advantage of rapidly growing demand for freight hauling between the United States and Mexico.

“For the past five years, we have been transporting our customers’ freight to the U.S.-Mexico border and utilizing various Mexican truckload carriers to transport the freight within Mexico,” Swift Chairman Jerry Moyes said in a statement released Feb. 16.

“Through this arrangement, we will now have a single-source solution for transporting freight between the U.S. border and points within Mexico.”
