Swift Raises Driver Pay

Truckload carrier Swift Transportation is raising driver pay.

Swift, a nationwide regional dry van carrier based in Phoenix, increased the base pay April 1 for nearly all of its 7,000 company drivers by 1 to 2 cents a mile on April 1.

The amount of the raise will depend on experience and the area of the country in which the drivers operates.

Swift President Jerry Moyes said the pay increases and bulk fuel purchase discounts available to owner-operators give the company "a real advantage over most companies when drivers are making the difficult choice of where to start or continue their careers."
