espite a lobbying push, truckers in Illinois probably will have to wait until at least 2004 for relief from increased licensing fees and sales tax charges, industry leaders said last week.

“I don’t really see anything happening until after New Year’s,” said George Billows, executive director of the Illinois Trucking Association.

Billows said the Senate had passed a bill that would phase out the increase in the commercial distribution fee while slowly reinstating the rolling stock sales tax exemption, but the House had not yet acted. The upcoming holiday season makes further action unlikely until the General Assembly returns to session on Jan. 14, Billows said.
