LAS VEGAS — The Truckload Carriers Association approved a new strategic plan Wednesday that refocuses the 61-year-trade group on education and training.

The unanimous voice vote by TCA’s board came at the tail end of TCA’s annual meeting at the Bellagio Resort here. "It is a bold plan, it is absolutely the right thing for us to do," said TCA Chairman Mac McCormick, whose one-year term as chairman ended this week.

TCA’s plan sets the association on a course to a scheduled October 2000 vote to merge with American Trucking Associations. Incoming TCA chairman Gary Baumhover said he will spend his term building support for the merger. "I think we’re smart enough to figure out a way to do it," he said.
