The plan, which is opposed by ATA's Management Committee, calls for TCA to pay ATA $10,000 a month and its members to contribute $1 per truck in their fleets to support ATA's advocacy actions on behalf of the industry.

At its board meeting here June 20, TCA released the results of its mail referendum on the proposal to pay the fee instead of requiring its members to join the federation. According to TCA Chairman Robert Hansen, 76 board members supported the proposal while 36 opposed it. Another 69 board members did not return their ballots.

Hansen plans to submit the proposal to ATA's Executive Committee on Thursday.

ATA's eight-person Management Committee opposes the proposal, saying it would allow TCA members to draw value from ATA without having to pay ATA dues.
