TCA Leaders Vote to Integrate

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — The executive committee of the Truckload Carriers Association voted 20-8 on Feb. 5 to recommend integrating the group with American Trucking Associations.

The decision, made after a spirited 90-minute debate, sets the stage for a March 22 vote by TCA’s full membership on whether to merge the 62-year-old group with the nation’s largest trucking association.

The executive committee vote was not a surprise, since an overwhelming majority of the group’s leadership represent companies that also belong to ATA. However, only about 45% of the group’s 900 members belong to ATA, making the outcome of the integration vote less certain.

The executive committee removed one obstacle to integration by voting to keep TCA’s annual meeting separate from that of ATA’s.
