TCA to Vote on Affiliation With ATA

The debate over the proposed integration of the Truckload Carriers Association into American Trucking Associations took a new twist as opponents of the merger called for renegotiating the terms of the groups’ relationship.

Several leading TCA members, including outgoing chairman Gary Baumhover, have sent letters to their colleagues urging them to vote against integrating the associations on March 22. Merger opponents want the truckload group to support ATA financially with out requiring its members to join the larger group.

Proponents have also weighed in, with 13 past TCA chairmen faxing a letter supporting the merger of the two groups.

ATA Chairman Lee P. Shaffer joined the fray on March 14, issuing a statement reminding TCA members that a majority of TCA’s officers and executive committee have said that integration with ATA is in the best interests of truckload carriers.
