| Senior CorrespondentTCA Votes To Fund Fight Against Hours Plan
Members of the Truckload Carriers Association voted overwhelmingly to spend as much as one-half million dollars from their reserve funds to fight proposed changes in the hours-of-service regulations.
The money is to be used in support of efforts by American Trucking Associations to prevent the rule from being finalized this year. TCA officers will have the discretion to determine the purpose, timing and amount — up to $500,000 — that is spent on the campaign.
Six days earlier, the TCA board rejected a $3.5 million budget for the organization and instructed the group’s officers to develop a new spending plan that included the contribution to ATA.

The ballots were sent by fax June 27 in response to a request by former TCA Chairman C.J. “Mac” McCormick to help ATA, which has been among the numerous groups critical of proposed hours reform.
