ORLANDO, Fla. — Dave Huneryager, president of the Tennessee Trucking Association, was named the winner of American Trucking Associations President’s Trucking Association Executives Council Leadership Award.

Michael Card, ATA’s outgoing chairman, made the announcement during the opening session of ATA’s Management Conference & Exhibition here Oct. 21.

“Having traveled to most of the states this year and seeing the state association executives in action, I can tell you Dave is well deserving of this award,” said Card, who is president of Combined Transport, Central Point, Ore. “Dedicated, passionate, energetic and professional are a few words to describe him.”

Huneryager was honored for his leadership, dedication and achievements on behalf of the trucking industry in Tennessee.

Prior to his work with the TTA, Huneryager spent 28 years with Roadway Express, where was district manager in Nashville, Tenn., for 15 years, responsible for 25 facilities and 1,700 employees in eight states.

During his career, he served on TTA’s board of directors, executive committee and was its chairman of the board in 1999.

Huneryager also serves on the executive committee and board of Phoenix-based HELP Inc.

“I’ve been very fortunate to be in this industry for 40 years,” Huneryager said. Interstate 40 from “Nashville to Memphis is the most heavily traveled truck road in America,” he told Transport Topics following the awards ceremony.

He was presented the award by ATA President Bill Graves and Jim Keller, president of J.J. Keller & Associates Inc., which sponsored a $10,000 grant that will be donated to a nonprofit trucking education or safety research organization of Huneryager’s choice.
