Texas Jury Rejects $3.5 Million Lawsuit Against Trucking Company

A Texas district court jury rejected a $3.5 million lawsuit against trucking company FFE Transportation Services Inc. after a car accident four years ago.

Jurors in the 97th District Court in Montague County, Texas, found FFE not responsible for a crash involving a company truck and a Saint Jo, Texas, police car. The lawsuit claimed on May 4, 2010, the truck driver failed to yield to an emergency vehicle.

A spokesperson for Saint Jo, which has a population of about 1,000, would not comment. The officer is no longer employed by the city.

“This decision is important because it demonstrates that drivers of municipal emergency vehicles must use a measure of care when they're on public roadways at all times, even when they’re responding to calls,” Bill Chamblee, the trial lawyer representing FFE, said in a statement.

FFE is a subsidiary of Frozen Food Express Industries which, ranks No. 66 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
