Thousands of truck drivers, warehouse and dock workers were abruptly laid off from Humble, Texas-based U.S. Logistics Solutions after the company sent out the notification via text messages and conference calls.

About 2,000 employees were told late June 20 that the company was ceasing operations and they would not receive paychecks on June 21.

According to Eric Culberson, former president of USLS, the company’s owner, private equity firm Ten Oaks Group, headquartered in Charlotte, N.C., shut down operations and left the Texas company with no bankroll.

“Due to the abrupt decision by our private ownership group to close our doors at the same time business was surging, I am completely devastated and heartbroken for the 2000+ professionals I’ve had the pleasure of working with,” Culberson wrote in a LinkedIn post. “The timing of this closure did not give me the chance to thank my team for their commitment and support to our customers and to each other.”

USLS is a logistics company based in Humble that handles the distribution of time-sensitive products. It was formerly known as Forward Air Solutions before being acquired by Ten Oaks Group in 2021.
