Texas to Make Retrofit Funding Available

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality said it would make more money available to the state’s truck retrofit program, after the Texas Legislature approved $5 million in additional funding for idle-reduction technologies.

The funding was appropriated for fiscal years 2008 and 2009.

The truck retrofit program is part of the Texas Emission Reduction Plan, a program developed to bring the state into compliance with clean-air limits set by the federal government.

TCEQ spokesman Terry Clawson said the commission has not yet worked out the details of how the money will be used to expand the retrofit program.
