Texas Trucking Companies Expect Faster Sales at Start of 2013, Study Says

Texas-based trucking companies expect to see faster sales growth at the start of 2013 but generally plan to be more conservative in their expenditures this year, according to a new study by the Texas Trucking Alliance.

About a third of companies surveyed said they expected to hire more truck drivers this year, while about 80% expect to invest in safety training and personnel, up from 37% last year.

Larger companies — defined as those with 11 trucks or more — were more likely to hold off on expenditures than were smaller companies, the study said.

The Texas Trucking Alliance is a collaboration between the Texas Motor Transportation Association and three companies to promote best practices in the Texas trucking industry.

“The development that these numbers reflect speaks directly to the vitality and essentiality of the industry and point to the many opportunities within trucking for growth and jobs,” TMTA President John Esparza said in a statement.
