Furthering partnerships and helping trucking companies deal with rapidly rising fuel costs will be two of the major issues on the agenda as the Transportation Intermediaries Association holds its annual meeting.
TIA President Robert Voltmann said he is hopeful that the group will support the trucking industry’s call for the release of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to ease shortages of diesel fuel. He also expects the group to support “market-based relief” in the form of surcharges on freight rates.
More than 500 companies and 50 exhibitors are expected to attend the TIA meeting, which will feature a presentation by Lana R. Batts, president of the Truckload Carriers Association, who recently announced plans to step down March 31.
The 22nd annual convention and exhibition is scheduled from March 9 to 11 in Orlando, Fla.
TIA represents freight brokers who arrange transportation on behalf of shippers.
