Tolls May Rise on Pennsylvania Turnpike

Increase Would Be the First in 12 Years, Commission Officials Say

img src="/sites/default/files/images/articles/printeditiontag_new.gif" width=120 align=right>Users of the Pennsylvania Turnpike could soon be facing its first toll hike since 1991, state officials told Transport Topics last week.

“Our needs far outstrip our available funds at the present time,” said Bill Capone, director of communications and public relations for the Turnpike Commission.

Trucks account for 12% of the total traffic on the turnpike, but the agency collects 46% to 48% of its revenue from tolls on commercial trucks, it said.
