Trade Deficit Narrows in September

Exports Rise to Record High

The U.S. trade deficit shrank by 0.6% in September as the weakening U.S. dollar helped push exports to a record for a seventh straight month, the Commerce Department said Friday.

The trade gap of $56.5 billion was below the $58.5 billion forecast by economists, Bloomberg reported.

Exports rose 1.1% to a record $140.1 billion, Commerce said.
