TransCore’s North American freight index for July marked the seventh straight record, the company said.
The index, a measurement of spot market truckload freight volume, jumped 22% compared with the same month last year. July freight slipped 24% from June, TransCore said.
Over the prior 10 years, July load volumes have declined an average 19% on a month-over-month basis, exceeding this year’s 24% decline in four of those years. July’s seasonal shift in spot market freight volume was reflected in truckload rates, which slipped for vans and refrigerated units, but was stable for flatbeds.
The national average rate for dry vans, excluding fuel surcharges, dropped 3.6% from June while remaining flat from July 2010.
